Here’s another photo that pops up with frequency on my little sidebar-thingy. I love it for lots of reasons, but mostly because of my mom.

Yep, that’s my mom. She is absolutely one of the Most Beautiful Women in the world, and that is really, really true. When people tell me that I look like her, my answer is an internal “not enough,” and maybe that sounds vain and ridiculous but really, are you surprised?

I didn’t know I had a beautiful mother until the fifth grade, when she brought something to school that I had left behind. And after she left, the girls from my class clustered around me and asked, “Was that your mom?” And I said yes, because she was my mom. And then they said, in that breathy, fifth-grade-girl kind of way: “She’s so pretty!” And after that, I noticed that they were right.

I’m missing my mom today. She and my father are in Liberia, Africa, aboard the Mercy Ship Anastasis. I’ve wanted to write about them and what they are doing for some time now, but now is not the time. Instead I will say that I haven’t talked to my mom in about a week, which is Too Long. I called them today and got to speak with my dad, which was a pleasure, but my mom was working.

Well, I know they check out this blog from time to time, so I’ll just tell her here: I miss and love you, Momma, and I hope we can talk soon. Posted by Picasa
