I have a new writing outlet. It’s called cinekklesia, and it’s on the web. A friend at church began this site, a place to explore how ideas, themes and images in film intersect with or impact our faith. It’s brand new: the site just “opened” a few days ago, but already there is a good selection of films represented, with essays focusing on various ideas.
I haven’t read everything on there yet, but I’m impressed at the range. There is stuff about Japanese anime, some discourse on the fabulous and very trendy Napoleon Dynamite, and, just posted today, an essay about disability as represented in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. And there is my own humble offering, an essay on the 2004 film Wicker Park.
I worked hard on the essay, until Far Too Late into the night last night. It was “due.” My friend had let me choose my own deadline, and I, Silly Girl, went right up to the wire with it. It was hard going, but I loved the effort, and I’m pretty pleased with the result. Now I finally have a forum for the discourse Bill must needs suffer after every movie we watch together. I will write it and post it, and he can look it up if he wants to.
And if you want to, here’s the address: www.cinekklesia.com. Enjoy!
