Stevenstine Evening

January 11, 2005

We think we’ve begun a new tradition: the first Tuesday night in every month, the Stines and Stevensons will have dinner together. This was the first.

Well, actually, it was the second. That is, the second Tuesday in the month. But we’ve agreed on it being the first Tuesday from now on.

First, second, or whatever, the evening was a smashing success. Rachel brought over a fabulous chicken, spinach and orzo casserole. I prepared rolls (okay, I heated them in the oven), my broccoli salad, and peas, and we had a great meal. Dessert was by request of the pregnant lady: mint chocolate chip ice cream with hot fudge sauce. YUM.

After dinner, Nat played a few ditties on our new piano, despite its being out of tune, and Bill played percussion, shaking a jar of popcorn. The children danced, and Rachel and I laughed at them all. It was good fun!

You guys are so much fun! I wish I could have been there. And too bad the Mumbling Beefheads can’t expand their instrumentation to include keyboards and popcorn — I’m sure it would go over big in this area.

Hello, tworivers,

We would have loved to have you. You and your brood should join us sometime. Won’t you come?

See I have refrained from posted a comment here beacause as I have already confessed to you I am to trying to work on not being such a selfish ,self centered person. However all I can think is – Where is my scheduled dinner date with the Stevensons? Fine. I will try and refocus. I am delighted that you can have such a happy evening with friends…. so what if you have known me for over 10 years now and we … ok ok. I am grateful that you have so many people to pick and choose from to spend time with.. I am trying to be delighted and grateful for you. REally I am. Mostly beacuse the people you have choosen to eat with are really such wonderful people.

Beth,

Oh dear, oh dear. In my enthusiasm about our monthly meal, I neglected to think about how these plans might affect my readers. I am sorry.

Ask yourself: Who – really? – is the most self-centered person you know?

Answer: Rebecca

Sigh.

I would LOVE to have a monthly dinner with you and Eric. As you know, I do have a monthly meeting with you (well, it’s as close to monthly as we can manage), but it’s not with Eric and your darlings. I no longer have any kind of monthly meeting with Rachel – or Nat, for that matter.

Does it help at all to tell you that it was Rachel’s idea?

Sigh, again.
