Eureka!

The other night our friend Jenny stopped by. This was nice. Bill and I both like Jenny tremendously, for both good and mundane reasons. She was Bill’s Right Hand during the months leading up to — and the day of — the Carolina Hope Fest. She has also been his Right Hand for the four? five? six? other concerts he has produced. This right-handness is No Small Thing. In fact, it may be that Jenny is also Bill’s Right Shoulder, and Collar Bone.

Jenny is fun. She provides tremendous insight into the world of the unmarried young adult. She has Fabulous taste in clothes and shoes. She knows her iced tea. And she’s a great eater. I really like that.

So she stopped by the other night and showed us her Purchases, and shared our sangria, and chatted, and helped me procrastinate. I was supposed to be writing a review, you see, for Cinekklesia (www.cinekklesia.com) on the movie Closer, a task I had been working on for Days and was finding difficult. (It’s on the site now, if you’d care to take a peek.)

By the time she was leaving, I had replanted myself in front of my computer, notes in hand, and was getting Back to Work. But we got to talking again, about blogs this time, and I was bemoaning the fact that I don’t keep a “Favorites” list for my website choices. This is foolish, I know. I’ve been told this Again and Again. But the fact is that– have I said this before?– that I just Don’t Make Time to learn anything about the internet or my computer. I have learned enough to use it with Some Efficiency (only Some) and Can’t Be Bothered. Also, someone else, a long time ago, used my computer a lot, and filled the Favorites list with things that are Decidedly Not my favorites, and the thought of wading through that was discouraging.

But Jenny works for IBM, and she knows her way around a laptop. Yes she does. With very encouraging phrases like, “Oh, it’s easy,” and “Here, just do this,” she helped me to delete all of those unfavorite favorites, then showed me how to make my own list.

So now I have a Favorites list, and while it hasn’t changed Everything, it has certainly made some things a Whole Lot Easier. And Faster. And more Fun. Yet Another Reason to like, and love, and be grateful to Jenny.

And now I’m going to choose one of my favorites and see if there’s anything New. Hurry! Quick! Post something to your blog!

Oh MY WORD. Obviously since I left town you have had nothing to do but post to your blog! And they are so long!! Very nice but hard to read in one sitting without the in-laws thinking I am being anti-social and HEAVEN FORBID – we don’t want that! Hopefully I will get to return tomorrow and finish. (of course if I had not started with tworivers I would have had more time to read Birches)

In retrospect, I wondered if I had offered too much insight into the world of the unmarried young adult. 😉 Perhaps it was the sangria. By the way, the first thing I did Wednesday morning (after checking Cinekklesia for your review) was reorganize my Favorites. They had gotten out of hand. Thanks for a fun, spontaneous evening. I had a blast!
