We’re off! We’re out! Whatever way you say it, the truth is this: We’re On Spring Break!

I am So Happy.

I have a million things I’d like to do with the next six days (plus two weekends) off of school. Already I’ve cleaned out my car– something I’ve been wanting to do since, um, September. I’ve weeded the rose bed, raked the Entire back yard, taken clothes to the give away, and cleaned out the first story (yes, that’s right) of Emma Grace’s closet. I’ve taken the first of what I plan to be Daily Walks, and have reveled in being Out Of Doors. And this morning, when I woke up after More than eight hours of sleep (bliss!), I did some reading For Pleasure.

This is going to be great.

Of course, I do have hours and hours (and hours) of grading to do, and after that, comments to write for report cards. But somehow that doesn’t hamper my mood: my students need to know how they did on things, after all, and doing that work at my own kitchen table in the middle of the day, rather than squeezing it in piecemeal and exhausted after a day of teaching, just doesn’t seem to be so bad.

Meanwhile, we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Bill’s dad and stepmom. They’ll be with us through Wednesday. And of course, next weekend (JOY!) is Easter.

It has occurred to me that I might make time for some baking– bread, I mean. This morning, as I rearranged the photos on and wiped down the front of my refrigerator (another task accomplished but not mentioned in that large-ish paragraph above), I spied a recipe for Swiss Sunday bread, a recipe I brought home with me after we lived there oh! so long (almost 13 years) ago now. Maybe I’ll make that one day.

I also need to get my thesis bound and delivered to Duke. And I hope to pop in and see my dear and brilliant professor. I’ve had a gift for him since December (December) that really wants delivering.

And I do so hope (So Hope) to do some writing. I have All Kinds of Things to write about here, and photos to post, and links. This might, in fact, be “Links Week” on this blog, as I have so many to share with you. And look, too, for updates in my “Friends” column at the right. I am Woefully Behind on this task.

Ambitious, huh? I always am. But when you consider what I’ve done in the last twenty-four hours, then maybe I’ve set my sights at an appropriate height. We’ll see….

I do promise myself this much, though: I Will Sleep In.

I hope your gift for your brilliant Prog is not a pie you bake in December. That could send the wrong message is all I am saying.
