On January 25 we held Everett’s birthday party. It was a long time coming, postponed more than once due to the travel schedules of our guests and the fatigue of the mother. But finally, only (almost) a month after he turned six, Everett celebrated his birthday with his friends.
It was a great time! After days of cold, grey weather, the afternoon of the 25th was glorious and sunny, warm enough for the children to be outside without coats. We had a bandana for every pirate-guest (courtesy of our stylish next-door neighbor) and weaponry for everyone. They played outside, fighting invisible members of the Spanish Armada for some time, then came inside for a few games.
We played “touch and tell,” and “find the treasure,” all the while listening to the soundtrack from Pirates of the Carribbean. Then we had a pirate-y dinner, followed by a treasure hunt. We had a map for the hunt, made by our own Dread Pirate William, who also led them on the expedition. The treasure was a bag of booty for each pirate-guest; then the map led them inside for the piece de resistance, a treasure-chest cake.
Our Pirate Captain Everett was most pleased with his gifts, which included two new Playmobil sets and an action figure named “Santis.” It was a great party, for a really wonderful boy.
“The End”
When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly Me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six, I’m as clever as clever.
I think I’ll be six now for ever and ever.
