My Grandmother lived within a 2 minute walk of our house and we spent every Sunday afternoon at her home. She was my only living Grandparent (all the others died before my parents were even married) and she had a pretty hard life. She also had close to 40 grandkids so there wasn't exactly alot of special attention for anyone. I was the second to the last grandchild so the novelty had kind of worn off and was soon replaced by the newness of Great Grandchildren. But I still enjoyed the few times I had her to myself and I have fond memories of her - her syrup like grape koolaid, the fact that on really hot days she like to enjoy a beer, that she always like to play dirty bingo at family reunions and the time she asked me to explain electricity to her and I explained that she needed to ask the nuclear physist grandson that question not the English major.

Grandparents are a true blessing. I lived only a short distance from my Dad's parents when I was growing up. For better or for worse, my grandfather says that I am the modern-day clone of my grandmother. I only wish I had gotten to know my Mom's mother and had been able to spend more time with my Grumps. It sounds like your children are also fortunate to have excellent grandparents. I know for a fact that their grandparents have most excellent grandchildren.
