I never understood what it was really for. In the Midwest they tell you that it is so that in Winter there is more light in the morning for the kids who have to wait for the school bus. But now I know it is so in the Summer daylight in Michigan can last unitl 10 PM. (Really it does.) And that is so much better than it lasting until say only 9:00. Just think of the electricity saved. And with each passing minute your Spring Break is getting shorter and shorter and shorter. So stop reading this and go DO something.
