So I am the one with the once, but no longer, missing 'p'. Dell sent me a new keyboard and with only a few choice words I managed to replace the old keyboard with a new one. </></>I just now had a chance to sit down and read this wonderful tale of our experience in this amazing and time consuming class. Thanks for telling our story so eloquently. I am visiting my dearest friends in Baltimore who have the cutest 8 month old ever. </></>Somehow we will get our papers done to the best of our ability - and that is all we can ask of ourselves. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!</></>Jess </>PS I think my post will be from Jessiquita - A new given to me by my friends here in Baltimore.

Okay. I said "prosperity," but I meant to say "posterity." At least, I think that's what I meant to say. I am so Unbelievably Tired right now that I am not at all certain that either word is even remotely close to what I mean. And I'm not really sure what I mean. So pick the word you like best, I guess. I'm going to bed.

Well, the reason that there is so little about the African American church in Durham is (and this was explained to me by an African American pastor in Chapel Hill whose own church also goes way, way back) that African Americans, at that time, had kept a very strong oral history and tradition but not a written one (with obvious literacy issues coming to bear here). Furthermore, they were, in fact, Very Busy at the time developing lives for themselves and families in newfound freedom, and so weren't really thinking much about that angle of prosperity. It stands to reason, when you think about it.</></>As to why there is so much about Prohibition, well. There just is. I mean, politics formed around it, and newspaper articles were written, and Jess found a record of some temperance society's meetings, etc., etc. It was an issue widely talked about, widely written about, widely read about. Meanwhile, all over Durham, African Americans were quietly establishing churches for worship, not to make headlines.</></>As for going to the library, well. When I was at Wilson recently (UNC's special collections), I discovered that they have about 30 (am I right? I don't remember the #.... Maybe it was 15) original drawings by G.K. Chesterton there!!!!! Isn't that Amazing??? And So Cool!!!! Why There???? </></>Anyway, I definitely plan to go have a looksee at those puppies AFTER I finish my paper. Wanna come?

Oh my word! I need to come up with an idea so I can get into that library. Of course the fear would be that there would be so much to read, I might never come out. </>Also after reading your post I am wondering why is there so much stuff about Proabition and so little about the African American church?? boggles the mind.</>And one last comment. The missing letter story is hilarious and made me chuckle out loud.

I hope it holds together, too! This post really helped me understand the reason for your library outings... my word, what a task! I had no idea. An inkling perhaps, but no real idea. You are doing a Really Big Thing.
